Abstract
Leadership style is one of the most important human-resource-related outcomes, and the kind of leadership style exhibited by managers to a large extent influences employees performance in terms of job productivity, valued outcome, reduced absenteeism, satisfaction, and efficiency. Despite the importance attached to democratic, laisse fair and autocratic leadership styles aimed at enhancing the performance of employees in small scale business in Nasarawa state, they are still not performing at the level at which they are expected. The study thus evaluates the impact of leadership styles on employee performance, among selected small-scale enterprises in Nasarawa state using the regression method of analysis. The research design adopted for this study is the Survey research design while a structured questionnaire was administered to raise data meant for empirical analysis. Findings from the study showed that the autocratic leadership style has a negative and insignificant impact on employee performance among the selected small-scale businesses in Nasarawa. . In addition, the study showed that the laissez-faire leadership style has a positive and significant impact on employee performance among small scale enterprises in Nasarawa state. Based on these findings, the study recommends that there is a need for the small-scale business management in Nasarawa state to adopt a democratic leadership style that ensures the implementation of a clear reward system and clarifies employee performance goals. Authoritative leadership style has shown that it has the tendency to decrease employee performance and as such, there is the need to avoid or minimize this type of leadership style. Adopting laisse Faire leadership style will equip and enable the managers to execute their leadership roles appropriately which will ultimately have a positive influence on the employee job performance ...
