Abstract
Revenue generation is the nucleus and the path to modern development. Thus, the research work was carried out to access the challenges of poor revenue generation on the development of local governments with a particular interest on Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area Imo State. This is because the Local Government as the third tier of government and the closet to the people, especially in the rural areas need revenue for the provision of certain basic social amenities to the people, but it is quite unfortunate to note that the local government management has not lived up to expectations. In this regard, the researcher’s basic objective was to analyze the extent to which poor revenue generation has affected the development of the local government area and suggest ways of solving these challenges. In this study, the researcher made use of primary and secondary methods of data collection to generate the needed data. The data obtained through questionnaire were presented in tables and expressed in simple percentages. The summary of findings included that of poor development of the area, lack of basic social amenities to the rural people and lack of revenue to maintain the existing infrastructure. The researcher, therefore, recommended to the local government to provide basic amenities of high quality, by so doing, the people’s interest will be geared towards giving their maximum support to the local government....
