Abstract
The 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new strain of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 which has been a cause of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) on a global scale. Despite the devastating scourge of the disease, there have been reported cases of some effective drugs but proven treatment against the SARS-CoV-2 is still pending. The existing disease control bodies are focused on disease prevention and control measures to minimize the spread and reduce the burden on the healthcare system. The success of the COVID-19 vaccination program will largely depend on people’s acceptance of the vaccine. Widespread vaccination is therefore essential for the control of COVID-19 transmission although the degree of protection and long-term effects remain a public concern.OBJECTIVES: To assess the awareness, willingness to accept and uptake of COVID-19 vaccine among undergraduates of University of Benin with a view to making recommendations to the key stakeholders to ensure improved uptake of COVID-19 vaccine among the population thereby preventing further transmission of the diseaseMETHODOLOGY: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was carried out among students of University of Benin, from February to June, 2021. Four hundred students were selected using a multi-stage sampling technique. Data was collected from the respondents using a structured self-administered questionnaire. The data obtained was analyzed with IBM SPSS version 25.0 and quantitative variables were expressed as frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation. A p-value of  0.05 with a confidence interval of 95% was considered as statistically significant....
