Abstract
This study is to examine the Problems of Maintaining Effective Record Management System in an Organization, using Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja as a case study. The descriptive survey design was used for the study because it focuses on people, the vital facts of people and their beliefs, options attitudes motivations and behavior. Proper records filling are at the core of every records management system, public or private for easy retrieval. Management requires information/records about products, personnel, finance, customers and when called for, they need them promptly to speed up the work of the busy executors. Hence, the main purpose of record management is to eliminate papers that are temporarily useless without delay and to identify and protect important documents of the institution. The result of the study confirmed that the success or failure and smooth running of any business organization are determined by their effective ways of keeping records. Effective record systems allow easier compliance, allow better workflow, cost savings, allow effective retrieval, and also minimize risk. ...
