Abstract
Two brands (black and brown) of shoe polish of beeswax formula were produced locally using the same common ingredients such as beeswax, paraffin oil, palm kernel, turpentine oil and dyestuff. A measured proportion of emulsions, dyestuff and gum Arabic powder were added to melted beeswax(150g) at about 85oC and was stirred continuously until a foaming paste was obtained. The polish obtained was suitable for the type of our tropical climates(hot). The polish was tested and was found to be good, and it produced a good shine. The melting point was found to be 42oC a property that makes its use suitable for tropical climates. The raw materials are readily available locally so their commercial production can be a viable venture. It is recommended therefore that further studies should be undertaken to determine other parameters such as PH, the cleaning efficiency, pour point, and the absorbance....
