Abstract
This study investigated the level of knowledge and perception of female students on toilet infections in selected schools in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. The purpose of the study was to find out the knowledge of female students in the study area about toilet infection prevention understanding. The study adopted a descriptive survey design in which two research questions were posed. The population of the study was 247 while the sample size of 247 was selected randomly out of the total population of the health workers in the study area. Three-point scale questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. The instrument was adequately validated with its reliability established using test-retest. Data collected were analyzed using mean scores. Based on the data collected and carefully analyzed, the researcher made the following findings 133(54%) strongly agreed that washing hands before and after using the toilet is another way of reducing toilet infections among students, and 8(3%) of them strongly disagreed respectively. While 149(61%) of the respondents as majority strongly agreed that avoiding touching surfaces in public toilets is another solution and 10(4%) disagreed with that solution. On cleaning personal items regularly, 89(36%) of the respondents agreed, and 22(9%) strongly disagreed. Based on the findings, the researcher made that hospital management should always advise Health records officers and other healthcare professionals to keep the standard practice of clinical coding, health records officers should always use Personal Protective Equipment at the workplace, and policies and procedures should be established for routine and targeted training of health records professional on clinical coding updates.
