Abstract
This study investigates the pivotal role of women in the groundnut oil production and processing industry in Lokoja. The research problem addresses the challenges and prospects faced by women in this sector, encompassing gender-specific obstacles in cultivation, processing, and marketing. The aims and objectives are to comprehensively analyze the evolving gender roles in agriculture, particularly within the groundnut sector, and assess the socio-economic impact of women's involvement. The research methodology involves oral interviews with a diverse group of women, including farmers, processors, and entrepreneurs, providing qualitative insights into their contributions, challenges, and prospects. The study highlights the multifaceted contributions of women in groundnut cultivation, emphasizing their expertise in adapting local varieties to unique climate conditions, employing sustainable farming practices, and adopting innovative approaches in pest control and irrigation. In oil extraction and processing, women play a holistic role from cultivation to ensuring the purity of the final product. The socio-economic impact is substantial, improving income, economic independence, and community well-being. Despite these positive outcomes, challenges such as limited access to resources and gender discrimination persist. The study concludes by recognizing the need for concerted efforts, including women's farming cooperatives, mentorship programs, and awareness campaigns, to address these challenges and promote inclusivity and gender equity in the groundnut oil industry....
