Abstract
Climate change is a global challenge with profound implications for various aspects of society, including agriculture. Nigerian farmers are particularly vulnerable to its impacts, which include erratic weather patterns, temperature changes, droughts, desertification, and altered cropping seasons. Farmers in the study area are experiencing climate change and they relied on traditional knowledge and experiences for their decision in mitigating the impacts of climate change. The traditional knowledge is documented in this research based on the response of the farmers. This experience and traditional knowledge are different and not well explored by the experts in developing Climate change adaptation strategies. This study adopted the use of semi-structured Google form questionnaire with open and closed-ended questions to obtain primary data from the respondents. the 351 sampling size was determined from a total of 5220 registered farmers with Fika Local Government Agricultural Department using Saunders et al 2016 method of sample determination. The data was analyzed using SPSS. However, the research findings revealed convincing evidence of the significant role of traditional knowledge in enhancing farmer’s adaptation strategies in the face of changing climate conditions. Based on the findings of this research traditional knowledge is very effective in climate change adaptation and can be used to mitigate or reduce the severe impacts of climate change on the farming system. With the results of the findings from this research, the study recommends the promotion and documentation and integration of this traditional knowledge into conventional climate change adaptation strategies....
