Abstract
The study investigated the effect of electronic marketing strategies on the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Biu, Borno State. Cross-sectional survey research design was employed. The sample consisted of three hundred and seventy-two (372) drawn from a population of 5280 registered SMEs in Biu, Borno State using Taro Yamane’s (1967) sample size determination formula. A five-point Likert scale questionnaire was used as data collection instrument. The study enjoyed 81.5% response rate. The reliability of the study’s instrument was tested using Cronbach’s Alpha and all the items had values above the minimum threshold of 0.70. Descriptive analysis and inferential statistics using multiple regression analysis and the Pearson Product Moment Correlation test were used to test the hypothesis. Results revealed that social media marketing and online advertising had significant positive effects on the performance of SMEs in Biu, Borno State. It was also revealed that email marketing had a non-significant but positive effect on the performance of SMEs. It was concluded that marketing strategies have a significant and positive effect on the performance of SMEs in the present business environment in Biu, Borno State. The study therefore recommended among others that SMEs should adopt social media platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp) to create awareness about their products and services and also render personalized services to actual and potential customers in order to enhance their performance in terms of customer satisfaction and loyalty....
