Abstract
The aim of the current study is to explore the current management and practices for an assessment of the training needs of secretaries in some selected tertiary institutions in Katsina state, to improve the process and practices and overcome problems and challenges in the organization. The researcher highlighted the definitions of secretaries, duties, qualities and attributes as coined by different authors. It also discussed the concept of assessment, training needs and its essential in the area of Communication skills, Entrepreneurship and information and Communication Skills in an organization. However, the researcher used structured questionnaire as the instrument of data collection, in which he realized that due to the changing times, and challenges, and to overcome the old ways of doing things, Secretaries should be abreast with the training  needed Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic in order to help meet with organizational objectives. The researcher used forty two (42) Secretaries as the total population of the Secretaries working in Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic. Therefore, the study has made significant contributions to the body of knowledge at academic and practical levels and has come up with good recommendations to improve the management of training needs, which will affect the effectiveness of training needs processes and programs in Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic. ...
