Abstract
This research work was conducted to identify factors influencing brain drain among Nurses working in Accident and Emergency Units of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Ilorin, Kwara, State. It informed the health officers on the understanding of nurses regarding brain drain among nurses. Among the objectives was to identify the push factors influencing brain drain among Nurses working in Emergency Units of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and identify the pull factors influencing brain drain among Nurses working in the Emergency Units of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Furthermore, to determine the negative implications of brain drain to migrating nurses and their home country. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research use descriptive survey to sample nurses in the study area. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 108 questionnaires were distributed out of which 102 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that remunerations Salary, Subsidies and other benefits: Government should improve remuneration. Now we see in recent times how they compare the salaries and wages of the president and senators of that in the USA, now if we can compare the salaries of nurses in Nigeria with their counterparts in developed countries and make it a priority, I believe a lot of Nigerian Nurses will remain in the country. And health insurance and full privatization of the health care system: The government on its own should have effective health care financing for both health workers and the population in general. ...
