Abstract
This study investigated the practice and implementation of ICD-10 using Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital Osogbo. The purpose of the study was to find out how the usage of ICD-10 has influenced the clinical coding in the study area.  The study adopted a descriptive survey design in which four research questions were posed. The population of the study was 61 while the sample size of 61 was selected randomly out of the total population of the health workers in the study area. Four point scale questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection. The instrument was adequately validated with its reliability established using test-retest. Data collected were analyzed using mean scores. Based on the data collected and carefully analyzed, the researcher made the following findings 72% strongly agreed that lack of sufficient training affects the implementation of ICD-10 in the department as agreed by 13% disagreed and only a minority 4(7%) disagreed to that question. 48% close to half of the participants agreed that there is resistance to change, and only 8(13%) disagreed to the question. 73% of the participants strongly agreed respectively that one of the factors hindering the implementation of ICD-10  is increased specificity and complexity. 45% of the participants strongly agreed that one of the factors hindering the implementation of ICD-10  is documentation challenges. Based on the findings, the researcher made that hospital management should always advise Health records officers and other healthcare professionals to keep the standard practice of clinical coding, health records officers should always use Personal Protective Equipment at the workplace and policies and procedures should be established for routine and targeted training of health records professional on clinical coding updates. ...
