Abstract
The researcher introduced the research topic as Incidence of ocular trauma among children aged 5-10 years. Ocular trauma in children is a significant public health concern. This study, conducted over the period from January 2018 to December 2022, aimed to examine the prevalence, risk factors, and characteristics of ocular trauma in pediatric patients. The study adopted descriptive research. Sampling technique used was convenient non-probability sampling. Data was collected using a cumulative scale based on static collected previous medical records from the Medical Record Department. The data was analysed using frequency tables, percentage and it was represented in histograms and pie charts and bar charts. A total of 224 cases were observed annually, with the highest incidence recorded in the year 2020. Environmental factors were identified as the most common risk factor, emphasizing the need for safety measures during play and recreational activities. Gender disparities were evident, with males being more frequently affected, aligning with previous research. Close globe injuries, particularly blunt trauma, were the most prevalent type of ocular injury, consistent with the literature. The study underscores the importance of gender-specific care and education, as well as the promotion of protective eyewear and safe play environments. The test for hypothesis showed that there is a significant relationship between the sex of patients and the prevalence of ocular trauma. These findings highlight the significance of ocular trauma in children and call for proactive preventive strategies and targeted interventions. Further research, community engagement, and healthcare professional training are recommended to enhance the safety and well-being of pediatric patients....
