Abstract
This study was on the Incidence of sexually transmitted infection among patients admitted into the obstetric and gynaecology ward between May 2021 and May 2023 at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State. The objectives of the study were to Highlight causes of sexually transmitted infection of sexually transmitted infection in UITH, to identify factors contributing to sexually transmitted infection in UITH, and to identify the prevalence of sexually transmitted infection in UITH. A non-experimental retrospective study was used. The study highlighted the introduction of the research topic, background of the study, the objective of the study, relevant literatures were reviewed, a theory of planned behavior was applied to the study and a checklist containing variables such as gender, cause and factor contributing to the cases from existing data from the officer-in-charge of the record office. Data collected were analyzed using simple table and charts. Findings from the year 2021-2023 reviewed, revealed that bacteria has the highest incidence with 54% of the total cases, and multiple sexual partners as a factor had the least incidence with 15.1% of the total cases. It was recommended that Mothers attending clinic should be health educated on the various causes of STIs there should be public education about preventive measures for STIs, and community health workers at various primary health care centres should also be involved in health educating the community members about the prevention and complication of STI. Also, women attending the clinic should be counseled to open up anytime they contract STIs in other to get prompt treatment....
