Abstract
This study was on factors influencing pain perception among pregnant women at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State. The objective of the study was to assess the perception among pregnant women at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital about labor pain, to identify the diversional therapy that determines the perception of labor pain among pregnant women at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, to determine the relationship between the cultural background of the pregnant women and their perception about labour pain at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, to determine the influence of educational background on the perception about labour pain among  pregnant women at University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Quantitative research design using a descriptive method was used for the study. A sample size of 100 respondents was used for the study which was calculated from the target population of 30 using Taro Yamane (1967). A self-structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. In conclusion, this study has revealed the perceived factors that influence labour pain identified by the pregnant women sampled as a number of children given birth to, prior knowledge of labour pain, continuous onset labour/birth, use of drugs, age of the mother, gestation age at delivery and fear, anxiety, stress and a sense of abandonment....
