Abstract
This study was on indicators and outcomes of negligence of meal regimen adherence among diabetes mellitus patients at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State. The objectives of the study were to Assess the level of knowledge of meal regimens among diabetes mellitus patients in University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, To identify the indicators of the negligence of meal regimen adherence among diabetes mellitus patients in the University of Ilorin teaching hospital, To determine the outcome of the negligence of meal regimen adherence among diabetes mellitus in the university of Ilorin teaching hospital. Quantitative research design using descriptive method was used for the study. A sample size of 92 respondents was used for the study which was calculated from the target population of 83 using Taro Yamane(1967). A self-designed questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents and data were analyzed using SPSS version 25.  majority of the respondents indicated that Not adhering to the meal regimen"always" leads to treatment failure (47%), Not adhering to the meal regimen"always" increases the side effects of the disease (43.4%), Not adhering to meal regimen"always" prolongs treatment time (43.4%) and that Not adhering to meal regimen"always" leads to higher healthcare costs (42.2%).  In conclusion, the major indicators of the negligence of meal regimen adherence among diabetes mellitus patients are Lack of communication with the healthcare provider, Duration of the disease, Overweight/obesity, Smoking and Physical inactivity. The outcomes of the negligence of meal regimen adherence among diabetes mellitus patients are treatment failure, increased side effects of the disease, prolonged treatment time, and higher healthcare costs....
