Abstract
Anaemia is a worldwide public health problem that increases infant mortality and morbidity. The consequences, in terms of years of life lost, of such a high level of anaemia are hard to quantify. The study assessed knowledge and practice of prevention of anaemia in children among mothers in Yagba West local government area, Kogi State. This research study was a descriptive survey carried out to identify the level of knowledge of mothers on the prevention of anaemia in children, and to assess the mother’s level of education will have on their knowledge of anaemia prevention in children and to determine if parity influences the practice of childhood anaemia prevention among mothers. 70 respondents were used for the research. The information from the research was manually analyzed and presented using frequency tables and bar charts. Hypotheses were tested using chi-square at 0.05 level of significance. The analysis revealed that 89% of the mothers agreed that breastfeeding of baby can prevent anaemia in children, and over 93% agreed that anemia leads to growth problems and development among children, 59% strongly agreed that employment status plays a role in preventing anaemia in children and there is a significant relationship between the socioeconomic status and practice of mothers of children anaemia prevention. Meanwhile, it was concluded and recommended that The government should ensure that there is adequate education for the public on the causes and prevention of anaemia in children and nursing management should create a healthy relationship with mothers to present their feedback on the experience of anaemia in their children....
