Abstract
This study was based on the Body Mass index (BMI) and Feeding Pattern of Students of Business Administration and Management (SBAM), Federal Polytechnic Bida, Niger State as a case study. A total number of 131 students were selected using stratified and simple random survey. Questionnaires were distributed to collect information on the Socio-Economic and Demographic background, Food Habit of the respondents, Food Frequency Questionnaire, Anthropometric measurement (weight and height) were taken to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI). Data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the result shows that 70 (53.4%) were between the ages of 21-24year while 8 (6.1%) were between the ages of 29 and above. It also revealed that 75 (57.3%) comes to school by foot while 2 (1.5%) use bicycle as a means of transportation to school. The study shows that majority 106 (80.9%) of the respondents eat snacks while 25 (19.1%) do not eat snacks. 56 (42.7%) eat food twice per day while 8 (6.1%) eat once per day. The Food Frequency questionnaire revealed high rate of cereal food, beverage, fat and tuber product consumption with several reference to rice 114 (87.0%), sweetened drink 115 (87.8%), indomie 115 (87.8%), garri 114 (87.0%), groundnut oil 70 (53.4%) which were consumed 1/day -3/day while fruit such as banana 44 (33.6%), pawpaw 58 (44.3%) and pineapple 34 (25.9%) consumed less within 1/day-3/day. The study also shows that 52 (39.7%) were overweight and 8 (1.6%) were obese this is likely due to unhealthy food habit and due to their little knowledge of Nutrition. ...
