Abstract
The study investigated the strategies for improving in-service training of secretaries for enhancing effective job performance in the selected organization in Abuja metropolis. The population of the study consisted of 77 secretaries, from which a sample size of 76 only was drawn using simple random techniques. A questionnaire structured on the 4-point Likert scale-like rating scale was used to collect data that were analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The decision rule for acceptance was set at the mean of 2.50 and above for acceptance. Any item with mean below 2.50 was rejected. It was revealed from the analysis of findings that, attendance at relevant conferences, seminars, workshops, granting study leave, adequate reward promotions, were strategies for improving in-service training of secretaries for enhancing effective job performance. It was recommended that management of ministry of budget office of the federation, ministry of education, ministry of justice, and ministry of finance should be ready to sponsor the secretaries to attend both local and international conferences, workshops, seminars, and refresher course in universities, colleges and polytechnics so as help them build up their knowledge and keep abreast to new happenings in their career and also to remain relevant in their office procedures and operations especially in this era of automated offices. ...
