Abstract
This research work examined the place of local government administrators in the realization of millennium development goals (MDGs) in Nigeria. Over the years, most of the government programs and policies are targeted at bringing development to the local government level that there is little or no development at the grass root. The main objectives of this research work are to assess the performance of millennium development goals based on the project on ground. To examine the process of project identification and project execution at the local government. The method used in collecting data was mainly primary and secondary data and questionnaires were administered to a sample size of two hundred and twenty (220). The sample population was selected randomly from the staff strength of Ofu local government area which as at the time of the research work is about one thousand, seven hundred (1,700). Based on the data presented and analyzed, it was discovered that there is no significant poverty reduction in the local government. The local government administrators have not done enough to better the lives of those of the rural areas and it seems the Millennium Development Goals is more on paper than on ground. However, for Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to achieve its aims in the local government, the following recommendations have to be implemented amongst others: the federal, state and local government must ensure commitment in the areas of fund allocation for provision of social services that are beneficial to the poor. Millennium Development Goals offices should be established in all the local governments'' secretariats for proper coordination of the programme/projects. ...
