Abstract
This research work was designed to study the effects of the global financial crisis on the attainment of millennium development goals. The global financial crisis in Nigeria has affected different facets of the economy as well as the performance of the various levels of government. These have manifested in form of declining cash inflow to both the federal government, the state government and the local government which in turn had led to plan failure and budget under-performance and increase demand on public infrastructure and social services. The main objective of this research work is to critically examine the effects of the global financial crisis with the strategic agenda in achieving Millennium Development Goals. The method used in collecting data was mainly primary and secondary techniques. Questionnaires were administered to respondents of one hundred and thirty (130). One hundred (100) questionnaires were retrieved upon which the researcher used for the analysis of data. Based on the data presented and analyzed, the following findings were made the global financial crisis in Kogi State has made most of the programmes that could enhance the possibility of achieving the Millennium Development Goals in the state impossible and unsuccessful due to inadequate funding of projects. The following recommendations were made: to reduce the effects of the global financial crisis on the attainment of Millennium Development Goals in Kogi State, the researcher suggested that: More effort should be intensified to check corruption so that government can have enough money to finance developmental projects. The state government should boost the level of power supply in Kogi State to develop the industrial sectors that can pay taxes to the government....
