Abstract
Typhoid fever is a disease that is marked by prolonged fever and some other disturbances in the body system. It affects people of all works of lives in urban, peri-urban and rural areas. Typhoid fever kills above five million babies[5,000,000] annually and makes one-sixth of the world population ill. The general objectives of the study were to investigate the risk factor influencing the occurrence of typhoid fever among the adult in Sabongeri area of Idah local government and the specific objectives were to establish the level of typhoid fever in the study area based on the knowledge of people, and to establish risk factors associated with the prevalence of typhoid fever among adults in the study area and to determine the effectiveness of water and sanitation intervention in the reduction of typhoid fever. The study design used in this study was descriptive method. The method used to determine the prevalence of typhoid was a laboratory diagnostic method in the study. The data collection method used was structured questionnaire while sampling methods used were simple random sampling method and systematic random sampling. The result shows that the prevalence of typhoid fever was found to be 6.3%. The risk factors which were revealed by the study were leaking drainage systems, wastage disposal facilities and water pollution among others. This study concluded that typhoid fever increased by 1.3% over the duration of five years from 2005-2009. The prevalence was the positive medical laboratory result shown as well as being on medication. This shows the risk factors were still persistent and that there are effective control measures in place....
