Abstract
It is in an attempt to analyze and evaluate the level of success made for far in the implementation and management of value added tax that this research topic was selected. VAT, which has been in existence since 1994 in Nigeria was seen by many as a fiscal policy that may not succeed. On the contrary, this motion was proved wrong by the success of the federal board of Internal Revenue service. There exist a VAT directorate responsible for the management and implementation of VAT in our country Nigeria. This study is also intended to assess and hence determine the desirability of VAT as compared to other taxes. The data collected for this research work was from sources primary and secondary data. The secondary data are from textbooks, and journals concentrate more on the implementation and management of VAT the researcher also visited some libraries like the Imo State Polytechnic Library etc. while the primary data was collected through the use of questionnaires, observation and the interviews from respondents. The population of the study was infinite but the researcher made use of 85 staff of VAT in Imo State which 70 were returned from the respondents. Based on the entire population drawn, the researcher made use of 70 as the sample size. The methods used for analyzing these data were frequency tables and the simple percentage method. On the basis of the data analyzed, it was found that VAT is easier to administer than other forms of tax the administrative performance of VAT since its introduction is fair, all based on the findings....
