Abstract
Girl-child trafficking is a serious global issue that has attracted concern and over the years, many scholars and researchers have evaluated the incidence and trends of human trafficking especially the girl-child victims however, in this study an attempt was made to evaluate the perception and attitudes of parents towards girl– child trafficking in Nigeria. The study utilized a sample of 200 parents were selected from various locations, to which questionnaires were administered to obtain the necessary data needed for the study. The data were evaluated using the percentage and chi-square test of independence where the results revealed that there are some significant factors that encourage the incidence of girl-child trafficking as well as there exist adverse effects of the incidence on the victims in Nigeria. The study concluded that there is a significant effect of trafficking on the girl– child education in Nigeria which is basically the reduction of the learning objectives and discontinuation of education among victims. The result also pointed out that there is a significant effect of girl–child trafficking on children’s health in Nigeria most especially the fact that the incidence is likely to lead to traumatic stress on victims and sexually transmitted diseases infection among trafficked victims....
