Abstract
This research work investigates the problems of dropout in selected primary schools in Wudil local government area of Kano state. The research found many factors which cause dropout to include lack of finance. This is understandable when one realizes that the area is predominantly petty traders and farmers. The task of feeding, sheltering and clothing the family is more demanding leaving little money to spend on school fees, school materials and equipment for their children in school. This confirms studies of Curle (1999), Far rant (1981) and Alri (1965). Another factor includes parental attitudes towards western education. Some parents feel that western education is more of Christian ethics and hence their negative attitudes in sponsoring their children. They also view western education as an obstacle to the preservation of traditional culture. They are suspicious of the western type of education system because it changes the children into European people in terms of life and consequently results in conflict in the socialization of family members. This necessitates parents to withdraw their children from schools. ...
