Abstract
This project is set to examine the“poor performance of cooperative society using Nwanne Di Mkpa Women Multipurpose Co-operative in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State” as a case study. For qualitative and quantitative data to be obtained both structured and open questionnaires were used to sample the opinions of Nwanne Di Mkpa Co-operatives as well as the members of their management committee. The data collected by the researcher were interpreted using percentage analysis and chi-square (X2) analysis. The researcher's findings reveal that the poor performance does not provide the business for co-operatives growth, expansion and development. No cooperative enterprise grows without adequate finance and investment plans. Based on the statistical analysis, it was discovered that the poor performance of cooperative societies does not improve the standard of living of the community. However, inadequate finance, lack of training and education of members’ lack of collateral to obtain loans and illiteracy constitute the most outstanding problems encountered by this society. ...
