The study revealed that banks deal essentially with cash, financial instrument and other documents which are easily transferable and hence the exposure to both fraud and financial crimes. This malpractice is very common in areas involving cash, cheque and other fund transfer operations, especially in the light of the recent fund transfer system currently in vogue. The trend as revealed by the study differs yearly and it ranges into billions of naira losses to the Nigerian banks as reported in the NDIC annual reports.
