Abstract
Nigerian vision 2020 is a long-term target deliberately designed by Yar’adua administration for the transformation of the Nigerian economy to be one of the 20th most developed economies in the world by the year 2020. It is a juristic comparative targets plan which wishes that the position of the Nigerian economy within the ranking of the national economy improves using their gross domestic as the index factor. The vision taken together with Yar’adua administration and the seven-point agenda, which is his general action plan. The seven key sectors namely:1. Power and energy. 2. Agriculture and food security. 3. Wealth creation and employment. 4. Lass transit and transportation. 5. Land reforms. 6. Security and Niger Delta. 7. Functional and qualitative education. In the same vein, cooperative societies have a relationship in the achievement of vision 2020. According to the international labour organization (ILO), a cooperative society is an association of persons who have voluntarily joined together to achieve a common end through the formation of a democratically controlled enterprise, making equitable contributions to capital required and accepting a fair share of the risks and benefits of the undertaking. From the above definition, cooperative as a self-help organization that meets the need of its members, cooperative assist in generating employment, income, life sustainability, food security, standard of living, etc. The resolution encourages the government, particularly in the repositioning of cooperative development from the achievement of vision 2020. There is no doubt that this repositioning scheme will improve the standard of life indices namely availability of equality education, healthcare services income decreased mortality rate, full and gainful employment opportunities etc which the above vision entails.
