Abstract
The study assesses maternal mortality on the health status of a woman of childbearing age in a state specialist hospital, Kwara state. Five specific objectives were examined, which include proffer suggestions on how to prevent maternal mortality in state specialist hospital offa Kwara state. The population for this study consists 240 of health workers and women attending the hospital in specialist hospital Offa Kwara state. Simple random sampling techniques were adopted in the course of this study to select respondents from the specialist hospital Offa Kwara state. A total of 120 staff and women within the range of childbearing participated in the study which was selected based on the percentage (50%) of the total population. 120 questionnaires were administered and 101 questionnaires were retrieved back for analysis indicating 95% response rates. Descriptive research design was adopted for this study. Data collected was analyzed using frequency distribution with the aid of statistical package for social science (s.p.s.s) version21.0 as a tool to analyze the data gotten from the questionnaires. Findings showed that (100.0%) have heard of maternal death/mortality. Also know that postpartum hemorrhage, anemia in pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy and sepsis are the causes of maternal mortality. Educate and empower women and girls about maternal health issues and implement best practices for managing the care of high risk pregnant women can reduce or prevent maternal mortality. Conclusively health record department is very paramount as far as the provision of health care services is concerned....
