Abstract
This project aimed to determine the effect of partial replacement of sand with quarry dust in compressive strength of concrete. The following objectives were used to achieve the aim of the project, namely obtaining the samples, determination of properties of materials, mix design of concrete and determination of workability and compressive strength of concrete. The quarry dust was collected from Mangal crusher along Basari road Katsina. Different experiment were carried out to determined the properties of aggregate such as, sieve analysis, specific gravity, intact value, and workability of concrete. The cubes were made using varying percentage of quarry dust as a replacement in concrete, the quantity of quarry dust was varied from normal control, 30%, 40%, 50% and 60%. The compressive strength for 7 days, 21 days and 28 days for all the cubes (samples) were determined the results for 28 days was 26.45 Nmm2, 30.41 Nmm2 24.2 Nmm2 and 21.8 Nmm2 for normal, 30%, 40%, 50% and 60% replacement respectively. From the above result shown that strength of concrete increased in 30% by 3.96 Nmm2comparered to the normal control, also describe in 40%, 50% and 60% by 2.25 Nmm24.96 Nmm2and 4.65 Nmm2respectively there for the quarry dust modified concrete of 30% replacement has higher strength, such that 30% replacement of sand can be used as partial refund replacement for the improvement of concrete compressive strength....
