Abstract
This study examined the strategies for effective teaching of physics in secondary schools in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. The researcher sampled five (5) secondary schools out of eight (8) secondary schools in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area. Forty-two (42) respondents were sampled which comprised 12 teachers of physics and thirty (30) physics students. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire, percentages, standard deviations and mean used to analyze the data collected. The findings of the study include the following: 1. The number of physics teachers in the sampled schools in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State was 12. 2. The study revealed that most physics teachers in secondary schools in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State have no educational background. 3. The study also revealed that most teachers were using discussion and demonstration methods in teaching physics in secondary schools in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. 4. The result from the study indicates that the most often used instructional resources in teaching physics in secondary schools in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State are chalkboards and textbooks. ...
