Abstract
Several measures have been taken to dispose permanently of organic wastes generated from agricultural,  municipal and industrial sources, but there is still yet to be administered, the most appropriate method that leaves behind no side effects. Considering also the impact of the ever increasing price of fossil fuel on the economy, these fossil fuel burns to emit greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which accumulatively destroys the earth’s ozone layers. The use of methane gas which is gotten from organic wastes which cause nuisance to humans and the environment can successfully replace fossil fuel. In this study, a mixture of human faeces, poultry dropping, and sawdust was co-digested under mesophilic conditions (300 - 350). The pH of the slurry was observed at an interval of seven days and agitation was made at four days interval by a steel stirrer to avoid the formation of scum at the surface of the slurry which would hinder the formation of biogas. A biogas of 200ml was produced at the end of 80 days, which shows for optimum production of biogas, not all wastes can be co-digested but if they must be, then agents that can catalyze the process should be introduced. ...
