Abstract
This study was carried out to assess the information and communication technologies usage among vegetable farmers in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue state. The population for the study comprised all vegetable farmers inMakurdi Local Government Area of Benue State from which a sample size of 100 respondents was randomly selected across three districts (Mu community, Wadata, and Wurukum). Data was collected using a well-structured questionnaire to collect primary data for this research. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics and hypothesis was tested using regression analysis model. The results revealed that the vegetable famers in Makurdi are dominated by (female 61%) majority of the farmers were within the age of 30-49 (42%), majority were married and had a household size of 5-8 persons, Majority of the farmers (43%) earn between 210,00 to 400,00. 46% of the farmers indicated that they have farming experience of 5-10 years. The most common ICT facilities for use are radio (84.0%), mobile phone (71.0%), VCD/DVD recorder (49.0%) and internet (46.0%). Majority (56%) of the respondents used radio always while 33.0% used mobile phone, 12% used VCD/DVD recorder and the internet always. Majority of the farmers (82%) benefited from the use of ICTs in getting information on current market prices and locations. The most effective constraint was the high cost of power/electricity which ranked as a highly severe constraint as all the respondents (100%) indicated that it affects their access to ICTs....
