Abstract
The work examined the Assessment of the Consequences of Flooding on some selected Communities in Lokoja Local Government, Kogi State. The major objective of the study, therefore, is to find out or to determine the spatial extent of the 2022 flood in some states in Nigeria i.e Kogi, Anambra, Delta, Lagos etc and also to suggest strategies for future flood disasters and risk mitigation in the study area. To realize this objective, the researcher used both primary and secondary resources of data gathering. These include questionnaires, interviews, textbooks, and journals etc. The researcher's analysis was based on data collected from questionnaires administered, processed and returned. The following finding was made; there was a general belief that natural disaster can be controlled through subordinate role and proactive measure is a medium of resolving natural disaster in the country. In view of the findings, the researcher recommended that communities should be strongly discouraged from settling within the flood plains despite their ancestral, regions or cultural norms and construction of hydrological infrastructure like water dams for the temporary storage of excess river flow from upstream of a river and also well-constructed spillways to avoid collapse of dams. ...
