It informed the health officers on the understanding of health records officers on electronic health records in the health information management system in the hospital. Among the objectives was to assess the level of knowledge of the health care providers on electronic health records in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and to assess the level of knowledge of the patients on electronic health records in University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Furthermore, to identify the challenges associated with the implementation of an electronic health records system in the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research use descriptive survey to sample 1313 staff of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 307 questionnaires were distributed out of which 307 were also retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that the Government should sponsor the training of staff on HER, provision of adequate ICT equipment should be made available, and government or hospital management should create awareness programs for the health care providers and the patients to help enlighten them on the benefits of EHR. And lastly, there should be a standard policy guiding the implementation and use of EHR across the nation.
