Abstract
This project work investigates the roles of health information officers in the prevention and management of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. It informed the health officers on the roles of health information professionals in the management of HIV/AIDS in the hospital. Among the objectives was to find out the available measures for the prevention and management of  HIV/AIDS in Nigeria and to find out the roles of Health Information Officer in the prevention of  HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. Furthermore, to examine the roles of health information officers in the management of HIV/AIDS. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research uses descriptive survey to sample staff of three selected hospitals. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 109 questionnaires were distributed out of which 92 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that supporting agencies such as GHAIN, PEPFAR and IHVM should employ Health Information Officers who will be able to render their requests at their pace, additional Health Information Officers should be employed or be redeployed to HIV/AIDS health records unit, especially on patient heavy traffic clinic days. And lastly, Health Information Officers should be made to be answerable to their employer alone by restricting facility employee cum supporting agencies interactions.
