Abstract
Health is wealth government has been putting more effort into the effect and welfare of the civil servant and all Nigerians to bring health for all, to make everyone effective in their day-to-day activities. One of the achievement programs by the Nigeria Government is NHIS (National Health Insurance Scheme). Therefore, the research work assesses the impact of the National Health Insurance Scheme on the welfare and productivity of staff at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin. Nigeria government has introduced NHIS as a financial risk protection option against ill health by all Nigerians at an affordable cost and to reduce the financial barriers to quality health care. It was observed that NHIS does not meet the standard of the pharmaceutical need of the staff. The project also focuses on different views of the pharmaceutical need of the staff. The project also focuses on the different views of various writers on the national health insurance scheme. 120 copies of well-structured questionnaires were distributed among the staff of UITH and 115 questionnaires were returned. Simple random sampling techniques were used for the analysis of data. 60.8% of the respondents believe that NHIS met the standard of pharmaceutical needs while 39.2% disagreed. 57.5% of the respondents benefited from NHIS scheme while 42.5% did not. 62.5% of the respondents think that the NIHIS scheme is relevant in a healthcare delivery system. ...
