Abstract
This project work was conducted to assess the issue of adherence to antihypertensive drugs among patients attending renal clinic at General Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State. It informed the health officers on the understanding of renal patients regarding antihypertensive drugs in the hospital. Among the objectives is to assess the knowledge of hypertension among patients attending renal clinic at General Hospital Ilorin and to ascertain factors that improve adherence to antihypertensive drugs among patients attending renal clinic at General Hospital, Ilorin. Furthermore, to determine the perceived effects of adherence to antihypertensive drugs among patients attending renal clinic at General Hospital, Ilorin. This research uses descriptive survey to sample patients attending renal clinic of General Hospital, Ilorin. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 100 questionnaires were distributed out of which 50 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made the government should create awareness for the public through mass media on the risk factors of non-adherence to antihypertensive drugs. Also, the government should sponsor nurses on research on adherence to antihypertensive drugs which will help to improve their knowledge on adherence to antihypertensive drugs. Lastly, the government should establish free medical checks up on blood pressure to reduce the menace of hypertension in society. ...
