Abstract
This project work was conducted to assess the knowledge and perception of women attending Obstetrics and Gynaecological Clinic on menopausal syndrome at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. It informed the health officers on the understanding of women regarding menopausal syndrome. Among the objectives is to assess the knowledge of respondents on menopausal syndrome and to determine the perception of respondents towards menopausal syndrome. Furthermore, to determine the factors influencing the perception of respondents on menopausal syndrome. This research uses descriptive survey to sample women attending Obstetrics and Gynaecological Clinic on menopausal syndrome in University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 88 questionnaires were distributed out of which 82 were retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that it is essential for policymakers and decision-makers to provide reliable and accurate information to increase awareness and reduce the anxiety of women experiencing menopause. And efforts to enhance social support in Nigeria will help women cope better with menopausal symptoms and improve their overall quality of life. Lastly, health related programs on comprehensive sexuality education to include menopause should be promoted by government and non-governmental agencies, because women approaching menopause usually need time and knowledge, not medicine. ...
