Abstract
Objectives: This study assessed the knowledge, perception and willingness to accept IVF among couples attending infertility clinic in Idah, Kogi State Materials and methods: A descriptive cross sectional study was carried out among 400 couples attending infertility clinics in Idah, Kogi State. Eligible respondents were selected using multi stage sampling technique. Data was collected with the help of two trained research assistants using a pretested, validated, structured, interviewer administered questionnaire. Data was analyzed with Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Results: Almost all of the respondents (94.7%) were aware of IVF with 63.8% noting that they got their awareness from health workers. Overall, 84.5% of the couples have good knowledge of IVF while only 62 (15.5%) had poor knowledge of IVF. Most of the respondents (72.2%) had a positive perception towards IVF. Conclusion: The study found that there is a high degree of awareness and that it comes from the relevant players (health workers), which explains why the majority of respondents have a good understanding and a positive attitude regarding IVF. The study also revealed that one of the main reasons some people were hesitant to embrace it was because of the procedure's perceived abnormality or unnaturalness. Recommendation: Health workers should promote IVF and other forms of ART to women and couples at work, in markets, in institutions, and in organizations and government should collaborate closely with healthcare providers to find ways to make IVF more accessible and inexpensive to the general public...
