Abstract
This research work was conducted to assess the knowledge, attitude and factors influencing the practice of self-medication among traders in Ipata Market. It informed the health officers on the understanding of traders regards self-medication in the market. Among the objectives was to identify the factors associated with the choice of drug used among traders and to assess traders' awareness of the dangers of practicing self-medication. Furthermore, to determine the perception of traders towards self-medication. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research use descriptive survey to sample traders in Ipata Market. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 150 questionnaires were distributed out of which 150 were also retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that manpower, money and equipment should be available to strengthen the health facilities. And basic health centers should be standardized to meet the health needs of the people at the grassroots level, while the provision of rehabilitation centers with proper monitoring and care.
