Abstract
This study is predominantly focused on the knowledge, attitude, and practices of healthcare workers towards the prevention of nosocomial infections in Ikole local Government, Ekiti State. Nosocomial infection also known as hospital acquired infection whose development is favored by the hospital environment. It is an infection that occurs in a patient in a hospital or other healthcare facility in which the infection was not present or incubating at the time of admission. A descriptive study in which 295 respondents were selected for the study, where a structured questionnaire was used to solicit information from the people and most of the respondents had adequate knowledge of the spread of nosocomial infection. 74.6% of the respondents believe that wearing gloves provides adequate protection from acquiring an infection while 58.6% agreed that the use of alcohol based sanitizer is the best option and 80.0%believes that washing hand with soap and water prevent someone from acquiring infection. From the findings of this study, it is suggested that there should be regular training for healthcare workers on topical public health issues such as nosocomial infections and their control by hospital management and various professional bodies to ensure better adherence and compliance. The barrier and protection such as hand washing, use of gloves, and hand disinfection will also be recommended as precautional written guidelines in every institution for Health Care Workers. Communication facilities and accessories such as computers and internet services should be made available and accessible to all Health Care Workers so as to enhance and update their knowledge about current trends in the prevention of nosocomial infections. ...
