Abstract
This research work was conducted to determine the knowledge of teachers on the causes and prevention of ocular trauma among students of Cherubim and Seraphim Secondary School Ilorin East Local Government. It informed the health officers on the understanding of teachers and students regarding ocular trauma in the school. Among the objectives was to determine the level of knowledge of teachers on ocular trauma and to identify the major causes of ocular trauma among students in Cherubim and Seraphim Secondary School. Furthermore, to determine the most common ocular trauma among students of Cherubim and Seraphim Secondary School Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work. This research uses descriptive survey to sample students of Cherubim and Seraphim Secondary School Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 50 questionnaires were distributed out of which 50 were also retrieved. In conclusion, recommendations were made that there should be adequate provision of school eye health programmes in all schools, appropriate training on what school eye health programme entails and how it is been used within the school. Meanwhile, the study recommends that there should be the availability of the health care system in all local governments affiliated to the school eye health programme in the school for immediate and proper medical attention. And lastly, Ophthalmic nurses and other nurses need to make it a point of duty to health educate teachers on the causes and prevention of ocular trauma among students. ...
