Perceive barriers to effective implementation of Covid-19 safety measures among health care workers at University of Ilorin teaching hospital

Abstract
COVID-19 is a contagious disease caused by a new coronavirus known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Since the occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers from different health sectors have been on trying how to implement effective safety measures in order to prevent and control the further spread of the disease. The purpose of the study was to identify the perceived barriers to the effective implementation of COVID-19 safety measures among healthcare workers in University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. The study was a descriptive study using a Purposive Sampling Technique (PST) to select a total number of 167 health workers. The instrument for data collection was the use of questionnaires. All questionnaires were filled and returned within the stipulated time giving a response rate of 100%. The findings revealed that 55.1% of the health workers are not aware that consistent use of COVID-19 safety measures will reduce mortality rate the findings also revealed that 58.6.8% of the health workers strongly agree and agreed that poor safety culture of some healthcare workers hinders the effective implementation of COVID-19 safety measures among health care workers, 58.68% workers agree and strongly agree that lack of strict enforcement of WHO regulations hinder the effective implementation of COVID-19 safety measures among health workers, etc the findings also revealed that 74.8% believe the use of personal protective equipment effective in the implementation of safety measures and 83.2% believe the use of personal protective equipment effective in the implementation of safety measures.
