Evaluation of the constraints facing health records practitioners in health records keeping in General Hospital Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara state

Abstract
This research was carried out to evaluation of the constraints facing health records keeping and the health records practitioners in General Hospital Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State. Descriptive survey was used for this research work. The target population of this study comprises all the health records staff, both professional and non-professionals in General Hospital Ilorin, Ilorin, which has a total number of 124 staff and out of which 90 staff were selected for this research work. A total number of one hundred and twenty-four (124) staff of the department of health records in General Hospital Ilorin, Ilorin were studied. Simple random sampling technique was used to make the respondents participate in the study. All the Ninety questionnaires administered were retrieved for data analysis. After the distribution and collection of questionnaires, the collected data was analyzed by first sorting out the responses, thereafter, the response of the respondents and findings was expressed in percentage and represented in tables.    Findings showed that all respondents interviewed were professional staff in General Hospital Ilorin, Ilorin. Findings revealed that there have been cases of missing folders and 98% of the respondents attested to that. Findings to assess the rate of patient waiting time shows that the overwhelming majority (62%) of the respondents agreed that the rate of patient waiting time is 20 minutes. From the information gathered, all the respondents supported that the department practice confidentiality of health records in the hospital which means patients’ records are secure in the department. Overwhelming majority (64%) of the respondents disagreed that their departments do not practice the usage of electronic health records in record keeping while 36% of the respondents agreed that their departments are practicing electronic health records keeping in the hospital....
