Abstract
Geological and geophysical investigation of groundwater potential was carried out in Part of Minna (Gidan Makun, Pago) town, Niger state. The area is part of the Basement complex of north central Nigeria, comprising of granite-gneiss and granitic rocks varying in grain size, outcropping at different locations within the area. Geophysica1 survey is therefore one of the sub-methods under the surface method of groundwater exploration (Al-Garni, 2004). This method is very important for both groundwater resource mapping and water quality evaluations (Al-garni, 2004). Its application for groundwater exploration purposes has increased over the 1ast few years due to the rapid advances in computer packages and associated numerica1 modeling solutions (Venkata et. al., 2014). The two-dimensional electromagnetic result is generated from the processed field data using the isograph software which produces an image of the surface profile. From the isograph plot the blue zones have lower resistivity while the red zones represent dry zones inferring resistivity at that point is high. Interpretations are based on the colour legend and the contour weakness. Between 40-70 meters, there is a possibility of water potential. The thicker clusters are located 40 meters from the initial point of probing. Care is to ensure that the drilling is carried out so that the recommended point of drilling is between 70-80 meters but 40 meters away from the initial point of probing. ...
