Three research questions guided the study. The research design was a survey. The population of the study comprised all students in the study area. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data collected was analyzed using simple table and percentage. The study found that the majority of the respondents (35%) indicated that the problem facing teaching and learning physical and health education in Junior Secondary Schools in Gwale local government area of Kano state is inadequately trained health educators and lack of policies that place a high priority on Health Education among others. The result of the analysis also showed that the majority of the respondents (47%) indicated that they are aware of the new technologies used while teaching physical and health education in the study area. The result of this study also revealed that the majority of the respondents (55%) indicated that the challenges facing the teaching and learning of physical and health education in the study area is inadequate provision of facilities and equipment and teaching materials. Based on the findings, the study recommended that Health education should be thought of as a separate subject note forming part of topics in school subjects such as health science, biological science and physical and health education. The teaching of the content should be independent of the above-listed subject. Federal Ministry of Education should make a policy that permits only qualified professionals of health educators to handle the subject.
