Abstract
This research work focused on performance appraisal as a management tool for increasing productivity. The broad objective of the study is to examine performance appraisal as a management tool for increasing productivity, using Government College Lafia as a study area.  The theoretical framework adopted for this study is the Expectancy Theory. The study is survey descriptive in nature and the target population is the entire staff of Government College Lafia. The study adopted two methods of data collection which are the primary and the secondary method of data collection. Primary data was collected using a structured questionnaire and the collected data were analyzed using simple percentage method of data analysis. Findings from the study revealed that employees in Government College Lafia are not properly appraised. Findings from the study also revealed that there is a relationship between performance appraisal and employee productivity in an organization and performance appraisal is a motivational tool in an organization. The study recommends among others that it is essential that the management of Government College Lafia must comment on the evaluation made and also the appraisee should be allowed to verify, and agree or disagree, with the appraisal as a measure of checking the problems of subjective appraisal....
