Abstract
ATM is growing, it is fast, it is easy to use, and it saves time but it definitely is not without its challenges. ATMs and Debit Cards have become an important instrument in retail banking, with economic significance far exceeding the original purpose of accessing cash without human help. ATM and debit cards are now used to authenticate customers for a variety of bank transactions. With the growing reliance on cards and ATMs, banks and customers are exposed to losses as a result of increased risk of fraud. In this study, a survey of customers'' experience of fraud was carried out, and an interview with bank ATM custodians (Managers) was also conducted. Data gathered from these exercises in addition to those from NIBSS and other secondary sources were analysed. This research report ended with suggestions on security approaches that could mitigate losses linked to ATM-related frauds in financial institutions.  ...
