Abstract
Breastfeeding is an unequaled way of providing ideal food for the health, growth, and development of infants and the most natural way of feeding them in all traditions. It is an integral part of the reproductive process with important implications for the health of the mother. Exclusive breastfeeding has been a major problem and a challenge for many women of childbearing age. The study, therefore, assesses the impact of exclusive breastfeeding on infants 0-6 months in Konshisha local government area of Benue State. It informs the health officers about the knowledge of mothers of infants on the impact of exclusive breastfeeding. Among the objectives was to assess the knowledge of nursing mothers on exclusive breastfeeding of infants 0-6 months of age and to identify the impact of exclusive breastfeeding of infants 0-6 months of age. The study used descriptive survey method to describe the facts about the practice of exclusive breastfeeding in child health development. The population of the study was over three hundred of houses. Fisher’s formula was used to determine the sample size. The major instrument used in this study was a structured questionnaire to collect data from the participants. It was revealed from this study that the majority of the respondents were between age 21-35 which is 53% of the sample population. In conclusion, it is recommended the government should provide specialty hospitals for pediatric infants 0-6 months. Also government should employ health workers in the pediatric hospitals to take care of those infants when they are ill and women should be encouraged to regularly attend antenatal and post-natal counseling so that they will teach them the health benefits of exclusive breastfeeding on child development....
